Built in 1930 from the bricks of the “White elephant”

The Hancock Building was built in 1930 and was originally called the Miracle Theatre, showing talking movies and featuring stage plays.  In 1938 it was renamed the Pentwater Theatre.  It had a cry room for moms to take their babies and popcorn was sold outside on the street.  Movies were shown in this building for 56 years, until 1986.  It was then turned into commercial space including Harbor design, attorney and real estate offices, a barber shop, and a residential unit on the upper floor.  Michelle Angell-Powell bought the building and turned the top floor into 2 more residential units.  During this massive renovation, the outside balconies were added that face Hancock Street, Second Street, and the Village Green, providing beautiful views of our village.
